Animal Welfare League of SA, Staff and supporters will be “putting paws to the pavement” at this year’s Lumary City-Bay Fun Run to raise money for lost and abandoned animals.

The organisation, which has almost 500 animals in its care, connects pets with homes and works to help the community to understand the value of owning a pet.

AWL fundraising manager Tassy Serradura said fundraising opportunities like the City-Bay were vital.

“AWL is 100 per cent community funded, so we rely on events like the City-Bay to help raise vital funds to give these animals the second chance they deserve,” Ms Serradura said.

We have hundreds of animals in our care right now, and every dollar raised through the City-Bay will provide them with food, shelter and vet treatment while they’re waiting to find a loving new family.”

Ms Serradura said funds raised would go to providing shelter, toys and vet care for the animals in AWL’s care.

“Most important for them is our vet care,” Ms Serradura said. “A lot of them need extensive vet care…it’s constant, around the clock care.”

In 2022, AWL raised almost $9000 through the City-Bay and Ms Serradura said they would set a similar target this year.

In 2022, the iconic fun run raised more than $250,000 for charities and the community. An overall fundraising goal of $500,000 has ben set for this year’s September 17 event, with up to 40,000 participants set to run or walk 12km, 6km and 3km, plus the 21.1km, half marathon.

More than 70 charities have registered so far.
