It takes a certain level of commitment to prepare to successfully complete the City-Bay fun run. Training requires discipline, perseverance and dedication –attributes that sit equally well in the military sphere.

That’s why the hierarchy leading the Australian Air Force Cadets unit at 613 Squadron Edinburgh were delighted when a group of teen cadets came to them a couple of years ago suggesting they could represent the squadron in the fun run.

It’s a tradition that will continue as the City-Bay celebrates the 50th running of the annual event on September 15.

“It’s a good opportunity to promote being active and an active lifestyle,’’ said Flight Lieutenant Emma Woodroofe, 613 Squadron’s commanding officer.

Tens of thousands of runners and walkers are expected to turn out for this year’s City-Bay, supported by the Sunday Mail.

They can opt for the classic 12km, as well as 3km, 6km and half-marathon distances.

The Edinburgh cadets have incorporated City-Bay training into their weekly parade nights.
