The rich history of the City-Bay fun run will be on show in a new documentary to mark the 50th running of the famous SA event.

Filmmaker Johnny Taranto has spent the past 12 months trawling through archives, filming long-form interviews and editing the documentary.

Mr Taranto, a producer on Channel 7 football program The Front Bar, who moved to SA six years ago, said the 30-minute documentary showed why the City-Bay held such a special
place in the hearts of many South Australians.

“The City-Bay is an event that brings people together and that mass confluence of energy of people participating creates its own very unique energy that few other events can match,” he said.

“It’s quite euphoric, and then it can also be quite traumatic, physically. It’s just that whole gamut of investment that people put into the event that is quite unique and special.”

Radio personality Ryan Fitzgerald hosts the doco. City-Bay: 50 Years and Running will screen at 4.30pm on Sunday, July 21 on Channel 9.

An extended 60-minute version of the documentary will screen at Wallis Cinemas for a limited season leading up to the event.
